A Message from the RSA President

On behalf of the Reed School Association (the RSA), welcome and welcome back to Reed! My name is Maureen McDonnell Pakan and I am the Reed School Association President this year. My husband, Steve Pakan, and I have two children in the Ladue School District. Amelia is a 3rd grader at Reed and Caroline is in her last year of preschool at LECC. If you are new to Reed, you are about to become part of a community full of pride and warmth; we are very happy to have you. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the RSA Executive Board. We are all here to help and want to make sure all members of the community feel heard and included.

So, what is the RSA and what does it do for Reed and your child? The Reed School Association (RSA) is a parent-run organization, and every Reed Family is a member of this organization.  Throughout the year, the RSA seeks an annual donation, puts on fundraisers as well as free community events, and supports the needs of Reed teachers, staff, and administrators. The funds raised by the RSA support your child’s education and growth both socially and intellectually from family events like Fall Festival and Reed Rocks to funding school field trips, curriculum enrichment, teacher and staff support, classroom supplies, and more. However you want to be involved is welcome; whether it is time or money or both, anything that you give will support the children at Reed and the community to which we all belong.

RSA’s budget will invest about $200.00 per child this year to support Reed. Your donation of any amount is greatly appreciated. We ask that donations be given by September 15th. We hope that this annual donation will reduce the need for additional fundraisers. Please make your Annual Donation online HERE or bring a check made out to Reed School Association to the school office. Donations are tax deductible.

We try to make it easy to be informed about RSA events and happenings at school. You can find this information in the weekly RSA eMinder newsletter, the RSA website, our Facebook page (Reed School Association), our Instagram page (reedschoolassociation), and our monthly meetings, which are open to all Reed parents. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Below is a helpful checklist for a smooth beginning of the year with RSA:

  • Register & update your directory info on RSA’s website. Here you can access the student directory, school store, event calendar, and volunteer opportunities
  • Request an employer match. Many companies match their employees’ donations to non-profit organizations. By asking your company to match your RSA gift, you may double the impact of your contribution.
  • Order a yearbook. Place your yearbook order now on RSA’s website in the school store.
  • Buy Reed spirit wear! The spirit wear chairs have been hard at work on new items that will show your Reed pride! Items will be for sale at events this fall and will be added to the website school store soon.
  • Ask questions and get involved! There are many opportunities to be an RSA volunteer and we welcome your thoughts and questions. Contact RSA President Maureen McDonnell Pakan.

Thank you for supporting RSA! We are going to have a great year and are so excited to have you and your family at Reed.

Sincerely,

Maureen McDonnell Pakan
